The Little Black Dress -

An evening of celebrity auctions, runway fashions, and boundless generosity -- describes the “Little Black Dress Girls Night Out” Event held in November at Portsmouth Harbor Events.  And on December 10, event organizers, The ‘Pink Pals’, officially presented a $150,000 check to York Hospital's Breast Cancer Living Well Fund.   Through their generosity, along with hundreds of donors, businesses, attendees, volunteers

Celebrities attending included singer-songwriter and TV personality Kara DioGuardi, who donated two cocktail parties, along with PBS “Ciao Italia” Chef Mary Ann Esposito, who gave a “Roman Holiday” themed dinner. Both were auctioned by legendary Boston news anchor and entertainer Susan Wornick.  Cancer survivor Sherrie Nichols moved the crowd with her story of how York Hospital’s staff and Breast Cancer Living Well Fund helped through her diagnosis and treatment.  "Everyone is not only unbelievably encouraging, but also informative… like providing books for my entire family, which my daughters read right away. But I also went to nutrition lectures and cooking demonstrations for cancer patients and even a class with an aesthetician who showed me how to draw on my eyebrows -- just to encourage you to look pretty even when you don’t feel it…”

York Hospital President Jud Knox noted, "Quite simply, this event—is something very very special.  Walking in, you can see the tremendous effort and detail put forth by The Pink Pals, not to mention the support from sponsors, attendees…the entire community.  And every one of them realizes it all comes down to a story, like Kara’s and Sherrie’s… each of our patients has one. And all together, we’re doing our best to help give each one some great chapters and a happy ending.”

Sponsors for the event were led by Bangor Savings Bank, Portsmouth Harbor Events, Stonewall Kitchen, Coldwell Banker Yorke Realty, Kittery Trading Post, TJX Companies, Anchorage Inn & Anchorage by the Sea, Victor & Mary Linda Zonana, Tide Run Development, Maine Coast, Anthony's Food Shop, ELC and many more.
