Healthcare Insurance Marketplace and Maine Community Health Options October 23
October 23, 2013
As part of the Affordable Care Act that President Obama signed in 2010, a method for all Americans to find affordable health insurance options goes into effect October 1, 2013 called the Health Insurance Marketplace. Here, individuals and small businesses will be able to compare and shop for health insurance plans.
Those in southern York County, Maine need to know some facts before choosing a plan. In Maine, two health insurers have been approved by the Maine Bureau of Insurance to sell policies in the marketplace: “Maine Community Health Options” and “Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield”. While both companies offer comparable pricing and coverage structure, only one of them offers coverage for services at York Hospital and with York Hospital physicians: Maine Community Health Options (MCHO). MCHO is a non-profit, Maine based consumer operated and oriented health insurance plan whose products feature a range of benefit plan designs and a comprehensive statewide network of healthcare providers, including York Hospital. If you choose this plan, coverage INCLUDES care at York Hospital and with our network of physicians.
Please consider your options carefully when choosing a plan on the health insurance marketplace. It is important to note that Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield's plan on the Marketplace EXCLUDES coverage at York Hospital.
