$115,000 Raised on the Pink Carpet for York Hospital Patients

$115,000 Raised on the Pink Carpet for York Hospital Patients

Hollywood is often known for its “cause-driven” celebs, able to do great things for charities close to their hearts, simply because of their cache and box office draw.  We want you to know that you need not hop the next “red eye” to the West Coast to be a part of a fabulous night out for a cause you believe in.  We have four local celebs who put together quite an evening this November, while helping an untold number of women in our community living with breast cancer!

The Pink Carpet:  Bags, Baubles and the Best of Everything Dinner and Auction was held at Portsmouth Harbor Events.  This evening of glitz, glamour, giggles and giving ~ raised $115,000 for York Hospital’s Breast Cancer Living Well Fund (BCLWF). Over 300 guests attended the sold-out event, organized by “Pink Pals” Ellen Baldwin, Cathy Barnhorst, Barbara Conda and Leslie Ware and emceed by Channel 5’s Randy Price.   In addition to the 300+ bags that lined the walls of the room, this year’s expanded alive auction offered its own excitement…while raising $25,000!  Singer-Songwriter and TV personality Kara DioGuardi donated two cocktail parties at her Seacoast area home (along with belting out her lyrics from the Carrie Underwood song “Undo It” to an amazed and appreciative crowd),      while Chef Mary Ann Esposito donated a very well-received “day on the set” of her Ciao Italia cooking show!

York Hospital President Jud Knox noted, “Clearly a lot of work went into producing this great fundraising event for our patients and their families.  It is humbling to see the support our community provides - be it businesses that sponsored the event or donated items, guests who enjoyed the evening, or the tremendous effort the Pink Pals put forth to create such a wonderful night for all involved.  We thank everyone for their support!”

And at the same time, all guests remembered why they were there – especially as speakers Kara DioGuardi and Dot Bolton moved the crowd with their own stories of breast cancer’s effect on their lives.  Bolton, a cancer survivor herself, was particularly grateful for the BCLWF and the Breast Care team, who helped her through her diagnosis and treatment.  “Through every test, poking, prodding, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, they encouraged me, sent uplifting cards, explained the process or were just there to listen,” she said.
