York Hospital Receives Another 'A' Rating from Leapfrog
York Hospital has earned its fifth consecutive "A" grade in Hospital Safety. Hospital Safety Scores are assigned to more than 2,500 hospitals across the nation twice annually and are becoming the gold standard measure of patient safety, cited recently in MSNBC, The New York Times, and AARP The Magazine. National performance measures from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the American Hospital Association’s Annual Survey and Health Information Technology Supplement produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.
"Patient safety is of course a top priority. Our score of A reflects the quality of care we provide to each and every patient, every time," said Dr.Lawrence Petrovich, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and Leader for Patient Quality at York Hospital. "We have focused efforts on safety at all levels in our organization and we are proud of our staff for achieving the highest score possible. Also, watchdog organizations such as Leapfrog rely on precise data to create these reports. Providing accurate data about our patient outcomes will continue to be a priority so that scores reflect the true care we provide," he added.
“Safety should come first for our families when we pick a hospital, because errors and infections are common and deadly,” said Leah Binder, president & CEO of The Leapfrog Group, which produces the Hospital Safety Score. “No hospital is perfect, but we congratulate the Board, clinicians, administration, and staff of York Hospital for achieving an “A” and showing us that you made the well-being of you patients your top priority.”
Calculated under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in spring 2014, with about 32-percentreceiving an “A” grade. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, and its website offers a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades.
