At York Hospital, the P.A.T.H. (Patients' Approach To Health) to recovery encircles our patients. We have designed a unique setting for adult medical/surgical inpatients. Patients are assigned, according to their residence, to a path (i.e. York Path for York residents; Wells Path for Wells/Ogunquit residents). This service provides continuity for the patient, family and friends. It establishes a relationship between the nursing staff and patient that continues from the time of admission, through discharge and upon return home. Nurses from each path in the Adult Health team create bonds between themselves and members of the community. They attend health fairs, give lectures, provide information and share their experiences with the community members they serve. All members of the nursing staff are highly trained professionals who uphold the vision of York Hospital - "Our unique spirit of dedication to patient satisfaction sets us apart. At York Hospital, not only are our patients treated with state-of-the-art equipment and by experienced medical staff, they are also treated with unsurpassed care and in a comfortable setting. Patients are given warm bathrobes and flannel pajamas instead of traditional "johnnies." Homemade quilts grace the beds and volunteers take time to chat and play cards or get a movie or a book. Even pets are allowed to visit their masters! Patients enjoy delicious food, comfortable beds and a pleasing décor. Beautiful artwork and murals grace the walls.
