The diocese of Portland and the generous staff and parishioners of St. Christopher’s Church on Barrell Lane in York granted York Hospital use of their spacious lower level from February 1 through June 30, 2021.  During that time, York Hospital COVID-19 Vaccine Coordinator Heather Bird, and a team of 25 volunteers, successfully vaccinated 8,000 community members (over 15,000 doses) in a safe and comfortable location that was easily accessible to the public.

Recently, York Hospital’s CEO Dr. Patrick Taylor, along with RN and Executive Director Charity Neal, met with Father Scott Mower of St. Christopher’s Church and the Diocese of Portland to acknowledge their partnership and support of the community and thank them for being a ‘Guardian Angel’ for York Hospital’s COVID-19 vaccine efforts.

Father Mower was presented with a special ‘Guardian Angel’ plaque from York Hospital. The inscription on the plaque reads: “With gratitude to St. Christopher’s Catholic Church for your partnership in the compassionate care of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Although the days of COVID-19 vaccine wait lists and website crashing registrations may have (mostly) faded from our memories, we have not forgotten the efforts of everyone whose participation made the vaccine clinic at St. Christopher’s possible. Our deep gratitude goes out to our caregivers and our community.
