The annual York Hospital 5K Road Race each June is typically a fun in-person community event for all ages – with elite runners competing for best times mixing with mothers pushing strollers, teachers leading students, cancer survivors walking in support of each other, and hundreds of men, women and children joining forces to promote health and wellness while helping the hospital raise funds. As an independent nonprofit community hospital, York Hospital relies on philanthropic support to sustain our mission, and we thank all the runners, walkers, donors and sponsors who made our first-ever virtual 5K a great success!
Sunday, June 13 marked the end of this 10-day virtual road race event that included participants from five states, ages 4 months to 84 years old. Kudos to our youngest registrant, Anne Coppins from Kittery and our oldest, Carol Lundgren from Mystic, Connecticut, for lacing up to support York Hospital and help raise over $22,000 to help us “vaccinate to victory! ” Many hospital employees joined the fun, including York Hospital’s new President and CEO, Dr. Patrick Taylor, an avid runner, who added: “We thank everyone who came out in support of York Hospital during this year’s virtual race and we’re committed to caring for our community well beyond this pandemic. With testing and vaccines we are already looking forward to next year’s race – in person!”
Special thanks to our sponsors for partnering with York Hospital
