We are pleased to share that the York Hospital provider organization recently voted to approve a $5,000 donation to Doctors Without Borders, specifically directed to humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Doctors Without Borders was chosen as the recipient of this donation for several reasons, including that the majority of each donation actually supports the mission, with very little being diverted towards overhead costs. Additionally, Doctors Without Borders brings humanitarian aid impartially, not only to war zones but also to areas in need of disaster relief, wherever they might be.

Dr. McLaughlin herself, an oncology specialist, has been a supporter of Doctors Without Borders for many years, starting when her own children were very young and it simply wasn’t feasible for her to jump in feet first and stethoscope in hand to travel to a war zone or the site of a natural disaster and provide in-person support. Dr. McLaughlin notes that “Doctors Without Borders lives the ideal of looking outward towards the world as opposed to only looking inward to focus on the ‘personally known’ zone that one might be comfortable with. It’s important to think globally as well as locally.”

A huge thank you goes out to the medical staff at York Hospital for thinking both locally and globally by not only providing care for our community but also for this generous contribution to Doctors Without Borders to provide much-needed humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine.
