York Hospital was awarded its 8th ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. The designation recognizes all York Hospital’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care. The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

Dr. Jennifer Cutts, Chief Medical Officer at York Hospital, said: “We are honored that our collective work in delivering safe, quality care at York Hospital has once again been recognized by the Leapfrog Group with an ‘A’ grade.  While our work to sustain and build upon safe and exceptional patient experiences is continuous, we are pleased to celebrate this accomplishment which would not be possible without our commitment to the reduction of avoidable harm and errors.”

Robin LaBonte, Chief Operations/Finance Officer at York Hospital, said, “We are very proud of the achievements and commitment from our caregivers and providers to the safest patient experiences in healthcare.  We look forward to celebrating this fully when it is safe to do so.”

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
