York Hospital is pleased to welcome the following recent arrivals to its medical staff. Katherine Balzano-Cowan, CRNA and Michael Dunnington, CRNA have joined the Anesthesia team, while Lindsey Sprague, PA-C, is the latest addition to the hospitalist staff, providing medical care for York Hospital’s hospitalized patients. John Knight, PA-C is now seeing patients as a member of the Cardiovascular Care team.

Kate Balzano-Cowan, CRNA earned her BS in Organic Chemistry, from Northeastern University, followed by a BS in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts and MS in Nurse Anesthesia from the University of New England. Ms. Balzano-Cowan has been an active member of the Maine Medical Anesthesia Specialty Team performing renal, neurological, pediatric and vascular, along with obstetric and thoracic procedures.

Michael Dunnington, CRNA earned his BS in Nursing from the University of Southern Maine and MS in Nurse Anesthesia from the University of New England in Portland, ME. He joins York Hospital after practicing at Maine Medical Center, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, where his cases included Robotic, Orthopaedic, Vascular, Thoracic, Obstetric, ENT, Pediatric Neurology, General and Cardiac Cath Lab. Mr. Dunnington hopes “to prove a valuable team member for the surgical services team, providing the best care we can for the patients of York Hospital.”  When not in the surgery center, he can be found enjoying the outdoors, biking and hiking and spending time at the ocean.

John Knight, PA-C comes to York Hospital’s Cardiovascular Care team after earning his BA in Biology from the University of Maine at Orono, and MS in Physician Assistant Studies from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY.  While working toward his MS, Mr. Knight held positions of Telemetry Technician at York Hospital and Phlebotomist at Southern Maine Healthcare.  He has practiced under the Cardiology, Urgent Care and Emergency Care Teams at York Hospital.  Mr. Knight “hopes to bring a sense of calm and approachability when speaking with his patients about their health, offering explanations that support both understanding and motivation.” He is happiest when enjoying time with his wife and two children and can also be found hunting or fishing.  His passions include innovation, writing, his faith, alternative energy design and restoring old buildings.

Lindsey Sprague, PA-C began her career as a clinical technician at Pinewood Medical Center in Somersworth, NH before earning a BS in biology from the University of New Hampshire. She went on to complete her MS in physician assistant studies at University of New England in Portland, ME, after which holding physician assistant positions on the Emergency & Hospitalist Teams at:  Goodall Hospital, in Sanford, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth, NH, Huggins Hospital, in Wolfeboro, NH and Frisbie Memorial Hospital, in Rochester, NH.  Ms. Sprague is happy to share that she loves providing health education and believes strongly that it’s important for patients to understand their treatment plans. When not treating patients at York Hospital, you can find her trying out new recipes, gardening and keeping an eye out for more vintage fiesta ware to add to her collection.
