York Hospital is pleased to welcome two new physicians to its medical staff this month. Ming Hui Fan, M.D., has joined Pulmonary Associates of York Hospital, while Derek Trapasso, M.D., F.A.A.P., has been appointed Consulting Medical Director of York Hospital’s Newborn Telemedicine.

Ming Hui Fan, M.D. earned her medical degree at Harvard Medical School. While at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, she completed three years of residency in general surgery, along with fellowships in nephrology-internal medicine, surgical intensive care and burn trauma, before opting for a change of focus toward internal medicine and critical care. Dr. Fan then completed her residency in internal medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital; this was followed by a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Upon completion of her formal education, Dr. Fan held professorial appointments at both the University of Pennsylvania and University of Pittsburgh Schools of Medicine, followed by positions as a pulmonary/critical care medicine physician at Washington Hospital and Jefferson Hospital in Pennsylvania. Dr. Fan is now seeing patients at Pulmonary Associates of York Hospital in the clinic, in addition to providing care for those in the ICU. She has a particular interest in interstitial lung disease although she cares for patients with conditions across the full spectrum of pulmonary medicine. A native New Englander, Dr. Fan enjoys spending free time with her husband and two children in the Seacoast area — beachcombing, cooking and playing the piano and violin.

Derek Trapasso, M.D., F.A.A.P., Director of the MassGeneral for Children Community Hospital Medical Program, has been appointed Consulting Medical Director, Newborn Telemedicine Program at York Hospital. After earning his medical degree from Albany Medical College, he completed his residency at Albany Medical Center. Additionally, his undergraduate education was completed at Siena College, Loudonville, NY. Dr. Trapasso has over 15 years of experience in pediatric hospitalist and emergency medicine, with particular interests in newborn medicine, respiratory illnesses, procedural sedation and traumatic injuries. While he grew up in western Massachusetts in the Berkshires, he currently lives in the eastern part of the state with his wife and two girls, where they stay very
busy with crafts, cooking, baking and enjoying time outdoors.

York Hospital’s Newborn Telemedicine Program provides 24/7 telephone and videoconferencing guidance and clinical support by MassGeneral for Children (MGHfC) neonatologists to the pediatric physicians on site at York Hospital, allowing newborns world-renowned care close to home. This program grants babies presenting with concerns during the birth process the opportunity to be cared for by York Hospital’s on-site birthing team, in tandem with the neonatal experts at MGHfC via videoconference in real time. There is growing evidence that telemedicine provides prompt and informed decisions, allowing for either safe and continued care at York Hospital or prompt transfer of the newborn to a medical center offering neonatal intensive care.
