Keeping our Frontline Heroes safe is not only something York Hospital is working hard to do, but our community is striving for the same! We’ve found that providing PPE is not only important to local companies and organizations, but to local students, YH caregivers and concerned and caring residents as well! Below is just a sampling of OUR local heroes who have YH Caregiver protection in mind…

Students, Erik Keaton Diehl of Portsmouth Christian Academy and Stone Slattery, member of The Tie Fighters robotics team (FIRST Tech Challenge Team #7804), sponsored by Dover SAU #11.  Erik, a Cape Neddick resident, has been putting his 3-D printer and NIH approved PPE prototype to good use, providing our caregivers with mask strap adapters. Stone Slattery, nephew of YH Caregiver, Denny Dumais, RN, has been working with his 5 team members and 4 mentors to best utilize 2, 3D printers. With printers running round the clock, the team is creating 4 face shields every 2.5 hours, allowing Stone and mentors Kathy & Jeff Slattery to deliver 100+ face shields for our frontline providers last week!  We not only thank both Erik & Stone for their hard work, focus and kindness, but also for giving us positive vibes and confidence in our community’s … and world’s future!

Our caregivers and community members who find themselves a few more years out of school are just as “project-minded” as our students above! Sarah Baird, Lynne Marsh, Kelsey Knoll and Danielle Weigant have donated items from hand-sanitizer to N95 Masks, Mask Ear Guards and Extenders. While sewing handmade masks for all YH caregivers has been keeping Karen Blake and Nancy Hall busy.  And three times a charm for Susan & Brian Wilson and Susan & Al McIlvine – both on third deliveries of their handmade masks!

Words can’t express our gratitude for all of your heart and concern.  Thank you for keeping us safe, while we do our very best to do the same for you!
