Welcome Karen Adams to Diabetes and Endocrinology Associates of York Hospital!

York Hospital Diabetes and Endocrinology Associates is pleased to welcome Karen Adams, APRN FNP-BC CDE. Karen has a special interest in providing care by helping patients achieve the best possible control of their diabetes through education and self-management. She believes that successful treatment of diabetes involves patients and their families working as part of a team with providers and educators.

Karen earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Administration and Healthcare Management at College for Lifelong Learning through the University of New Hampshire, and Master of Science in Nursing and Management through the University of Phoenix, Arizona. She received her Advanced Practice Nursing Certificate through the University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH. She is a board certified as FNP-BC, board certified as a Pain Management Nurse Specialist, and a Certified Diabetes Educator. She’s also Certified as a Guided Care Nurse through the ANCC for Medical Home through the Johns Hopkins Nursing Institute.

Prior to joining York Hospital, Karen worked as a Nurse Practitioner for Diabetes and Endocrinology with a Central New Hampshire and Seacoast-based practice and prior to that she was a Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in preventive care, treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, and promotion of healthy behaviors. She worked as a Clinical Nurse and Program Manager for diabetes services, dealing with inpatient and outpatient care and education of patients with diabetes and is an active member of the Granite State Diabetes Educator’s non-profit organization, and currently serving on the board of directors. She is also an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Association of Diabetes Educators and American Diabetes Associations.

Karen feels honored to have the opportunity to serve patients in the community in which she lives. She enjoys getting to know her patients personally and building strong and trusting relationships.

Diabetes Education

The Diabetes Education program at the Living Well Center is still available.Education is the cornerstone to an effective diabetes management plan. All of our educators are specially trained with advanced degrees, either as Registered Dieticians (RD) or Registered Nurses (RN), and Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certificate training.
