In order to best protect the community and our health care workers, and in accordance with updated CDC recommendations, York Hospital has adjusted our approach to patient testing.

Testing is recommended for the following patients:

Patients who have symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath + travel or exposure) AND are in these categories:

  • Hospitalized patients
  • Health care workers
  • First responders (EMS, Police, Firefighters)
  • Those living in long term care facilities, group homes, assisted living facilities, or shelters
  • Patients older than 60 years
  • Patients with underlying medical conditions
Why did we update our testing approach?
  • We want mildly symptomatic people to stay home, and minimize the spread of infection in the community.
  • The testing process creates a potential exposure situation to patients and health care workers, so we want to minimize this risk.
  • The State of Maine has met the CDC’s criteria for a “moderate level of community transmission” of Covid-19.  As a result, an updated testing approach is recommended.

Thank you for your understanding during this time.  Please be assured that our COVID-19 Workgroup has put York Hospital in the best position to care for our patients amidst this unexpected situation.
