York Hospital has earned its sixth consecutive “A” grade in Hospital Safety. Hospital Safety Scores are assigned to more than 2,500 hospitals across the nation twice annually and are becoming the gold standard measure of patient safety, cited recently in MSNBC, The New York Times, and AARP The Magazine. National performance measures from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the American Hospital Association’s Annual Survey and Health Information Technology Supplement produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.

“Patient safety is of course a top priority. We work diligently to ensure we are following the highest standards of safety. These efforts include working with Massachusetts General Hospital and many other local initiatives” said Dr.Lawrence Petrovich, M.D. York Hospital. York Hospital and Dr, Petrovich are also pleased to introduce Dr. Jennifer Cutts as the newly appointed Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer for York Hospital. Dr. Cutts and Dr. Petrovich will continue to work closely together on hospital safety initiatives.

“Safety should come first for our families when we pick a hospital, because errors and infections are common and deadly,” said Leah Binder, president & CEO of The Leapfrog Group, which produces the Hospital Safety Score. “No hospital is perfect, but we congratulate the Board, clinicians, administration, and staff of York Hospital for achieving an “A” and showing us that you made the well-being of you patients your top priority.”

Calculated under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, and its website offers a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades.
