Lab Services at York Hospital

Please know you do not need to be a patient of York Hospital to use our laboratory services. We are happy to send results to your provider, no matter their location! York Hospital Laboratory Services perform thousands of tests to help your provider diagnose and treat conditions. We are not a Quest Lab

Please note, we are not a Quest Patient Service Center. If your lab slip indicates Quest Diagnostics PSC Hold, it cannot be used at any York Hospital facilities. These orders have been submitted directly to Quest by your provider and require you to visit a Quest Patient Service Center for collection. Please contact Quest Patient Service Center online to make an appointment.

We do have the ability to accept standard lab order requisitions from provider locations locally or distant, as long as all required information is present.  If your insurance requires your tests to be done at Quest, we are happy to forward your specimens. Please just let us know.

Information that must be present on any lab order requisition

  1. Patient's full name and date of birth.

  2. Ordering/authorizing provider name, office address, and fax number.

  3. Tests requested with associated diagnosis codes.

  4. Provider signature, or printed name with statement indicating "Electronically Signed by."

Test result information

About 95% of the lab tests collected at our lab are performed in-house and results are typically available within 24-48 hours. Once completed, these results are automatically sent to the ordering provider’s office. Copies of reports are also sent to any additional providers involved in your care as requested.

The remaining percentage of tests (about 5%) are referred to specialty laboratories for analysis. These tests often involve complex methodologies and may take up to 3-7 days to complete.

When the York Hospital Laboratory receives the results, reports are automatically forwarded to the ordering provider. Copies of reports are also sent to any additional providers requested.

We are happy to provide you with a copy of your test results either through the online patient portal or by contacting our Medical Records Department at (207) 351-2184.

To protect the privacy of our patients, we are not able to provide results through a general fax number at this time.

What if I have questions about my test results?

If you have questions about the interpretation of your test results, contact your ordering provider or primary care physician (PCP).
