Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our community, the Leading with Heart Cardiac Campaign officially concluded in October 2025, surpassing its $6.4 million goal and reaching 104%. Memorial and honorary gifts to York Hospital can be a meaningful way to recognize a special caregiver, honor the memory of a loved one, or mark a special occasion. Your will or estate plan reflects your values and goals. Many people include charity as a part of their will or trust, believing that giving back to others makes our world a better place.
One of the easiest planned gifts to make is to leave a portion of your estate to an organization you care about. You can help York Hospital with a gift through your will or trust by naming the hospital as a beneficiary of an IRA, charitable gift annuity, life insurance policy, or other asset. A generous gift will cost you nothing during your lifetime. Still, a gift of just 1% of your total estate could significantly impact the future generations who come through our doors.
Listed below are several ways to make a planned gift. For more information, please contact David Hall, Chief Philanthropy Officer at David.Hall@yorkhospital.com or
Planned gifts range in size from $1,000 to $1,000,000 or more.
The simplest way to include York Hospital in a bequest is to ask your estate planning professional to add the following language to your will:
“I give to York Hospital, York, ME, ____percentage of my estate (or the sum of $____) for its general uses and purposes.”
Most retirement plan assets, such as IRAs and 401(k)s, are subject to taxation when passed to heirs — but up to 100% of your retirement plan assets can be transferred to York Hospital free of all taxes. To name us as the beneficiary, consult with your adviser, then instruct the plan administrator of your decision and complete a change of beneficiary form.
A charitable gift annuity is a contract between you and York Hospital where you make an initial donation and then receive a lifetime of payments in return. Upon making your donation, you can also take advantage of a charitable tax deduction.
Making an outright or partial gift of real estate is a great way to support York Hospital. You'll incur no tax liability on the transfer and get a tax deduction based on the property's fair market value.
If you're over 70 and a half and are taking a required minimum distribution from your IRA, you can direct all or part of that distribution to York Hospital (up to $100,000).
Have investments that have been appreciated? Consider gifting them to York Hospital to maximize your impact and tax benefit.
When you gift an investment that's appreciated, you get to deduct the fair market value of that security as a charitable gift — avoiding the capital gains tax of a sale. In other words, you'll make a more significant impact by donating the investment directly (instead of donating the cash earnings of a sale).
