Thanks to some thoughtful community members, caregivers in numerous departments across York Hospital have recently enjoyed delicious pizza from a variety of local restaurants.
On April 2 and again on April 9, Todd Callioras and Sue Calabre of Litchfield’s Bar & Grill donated full pizza dinners for the caregivers at York Hospital in Wells.
On April 14, Huw Collins of 1652 Restaurant delivered 17 pizzas for the ED and ICU teams to enjoy.
On April 16, an anonymous staff member generously provided 30 pizzas (!) from Anthony’s Food Shop for lunch. For dinner that night, Flatbread Pizza donated another 15 pizzas that were delivered by The Take-Out Guys for managers to share with their teams.
On April 17, Jeffrey Lyle and Kevin Scerbo of Eliot arrived at lunchtime in a Mini Cooper bearing 10 pizzas for our York practices.Their businesses in Boston closed in early March, and they wanted to show appreciation for their local frontline caregivers. That evening, another 20 pizzas unexpectedly arrived at our York campus, courtesy of Dr. Erron Kinsler’s brother, Micah Kinsler, of MiCamp Solutions in Arizona.
Lastly, on April 19, Jackie Jones and David White of Rye treated the overnight staff to 40 pizzas from When Pigs Fly Restaurant & Pizzeria, along with 40 fresh loaves of bread for them to take home. Their daughter-in-law, Teresa Jussaume, is a night nurse on the medical surgical floor, who has been self-quarantining away from her family.
Jackie and David wanted to show their gratitude to Teresa and the entire night staff for continuing to take care of the community during these difficult times. Teresa’s children also wanted to show their appreciation by making cards for the departments.
“Teresa has truly realized, through the current situation, why she chose nursing for her profession,” said Jackie.
Thank you to all these amazing donors for supporting our caregivers—through thick and thin. It might sound cheesy to some, but all this kindness hasn’t just left them with full bellies, it has also melted their hearts!
