National Awards Recognize York Hospital's Commitment to Exceptional Care, Patient Experience and Community Impact

From lifesaving stroke care and surgical excellence to patient experience, workplace culture and community impact, York Hospital has earned an impressive collection of national honors in 2026—recognition that reflects the dedication of its caregivers and the trust patients and community members place in them every day.

The awards come from some of the nation's most respected healthcare evaluators and are based on objective measures ranging from patient outcomes and clinical quality to employee satisfaction and health equity. Together, they paint a picture of a hospital delivering high-quality care while remaining deeply committed to the people and communities it serves.

"While we're honored by these recognitions, what makes them meaningful is what they represent," said Patrick A. Taylor, MD, MBA, York Hospital President & CEO. "Behind every award is a patient whose life was improved, a family who received support during a difficult time, and a caregiver who brought expertise and compassion to their work. These honors belong to our providers, nurses, therapists, technicians, support staff and volunteers whose commitment to excellence shows up every day in the care they provide. I could not be more proud of this team and what they accomplish together on behalf of our community."

York Hospital’s recognition as Maine's leader in social responsibility and community impact was highlighted by this year’s 2026-2027 Lown Institute Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility. The hospital achieved an overall “A” grade, ranking No. 1 in Maine among 13 hospitals, while ranking 11 out of over 2,600 hospitals nationwide. York Hospital also ranked first in Maine for patient satisfaction, community benefit, health equity and patient outcomes.

Among the hospital’s clinical recognitions, York Hospital earned the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Silver Plus with Target Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Quality Achievement Award, recognizing hospitals that consistently follow the latest evidence-based guidelines for stroke treatment. The designation reflects at least 12 consecutive months of high compliance with nationally recognized stroke care standards, an achievement that helps improve recovery, reduce complications, and save lives. Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in the United States, making rapid, coordinated care critically important.

The hospital was also named a Castle Connolly Top Hospital for exceptional outcomes and patient experience in mastectomy procedures, as well as outpatient colon surgery and hernia repair. The recognition is based on comprehensive claims data from both public and private insurers, evaluating real-world patient outcomes rather than reputation alone.

York Hospital's commitment to healing was further recognized when its Wound Care Center received the Healogics Wound Care Center of Distinction Award. The center, located in Wells, exceeded rigorous benchmarks for patient satisfaction—greater than 92%, healing outcomes and clinical performance and was the only hospital in Maine to receive the distinction. The award reflects the expertise and dedication of a multidisciplinary team focused on helping patients recover from complex wounds and return to their daily lives.

The patient experience remains a defining strength for York Hospital. For the second consecutive year, the hospital received the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award, based on patient feedback collected through the nationally standardized HCAHPS survey administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Patients rated York Hospital significantly above national averages in key areas including overall satisfaction, communication with physicians and nurses, staff responsiveness, discharge planning, cleanliness, and care transitions. Overall, patients were 9% more likely than the national average to give York Hospital a rating of 9 or 10.

Excellence at York Hospital extends beyond clinical care. In 2026, Newsweek named York Hospital one of America's Greatest Midsize Workplaces in Health Care, recognizing organizations that excel in culture, employee engagement, career development, work-life balance, and compensation. The ranking was based on an extensive analysis of more than 1.3 million employee reviews and over 120 workplace indicators, along with additional screening to ensure recipients demonstrated strong ethical workplace practices.

Adding to this year's honors, York Hospital received nine Women's Choice Awards® for 2025–2026, recognizing excellence in cancer care, heart care, stroke care, orthopedics, mammogram imaging, minimally invasive surgery, knee and hip replacement, outpatient experience and comprehensive care. The awards are based on clinical quality measures and patient satisfaction data reported through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. York Hospital ranked among the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide in every category recognized and among the top 5 percent in several specialties, including cancer care, stroke care, orthopedics, mammogram imaging, and outpatient experience.

Collectively, these awards highlight something that cannot be measured by any single ranking: the commitment of York Hospital's caregivers to delivering exceptional care close to home. Whether caring for a patient experiencing a medical emergency, helping someone recover from surgery, supporting a family through cancer treatment or creating a workplace where healthcare professionals can thrive, York Hospital continues to demonstrate that excellence is built one patient interaction at a time.
