Three Close Calls, One Second Chance

York Resident Shares Gratitude for Life-Saving Care at York Hospital

York resident Donna Allard-Flett is sharing a deeply personal story of how the dedicated team at York Hospital saved her husband’s life and gave him a second chance.

“I watched my husband die three times. Three times in the emergency room, his breathing stopped. Three times, a team of heroes raced to bring him back. And three times, they did—with urgency, precision, and compassion that I will never forget,” Donna said.

Reflecting on the crisis, Donna recalls the “controlled chaos” in the ER, “alarms, CPR, people coming and going, a flurry of action.” But she says that’s not what left the deepest impression on her. “What stands out most is not the fear. It’s the fierce dedication of the York Hospital team who refused to give up on my husband, Fred.”

And their support didn’t stop with Fred’s care. “The York Hospital team not only fought to save my husband’s life—they cared for me, too. They saw me. They comforted me. They gave me hope when I felt helpless.” Thanks to the tireless efforts of the York Hospital team, Fred is alive today.

Donna reflects on the experience with deep gratitude: “To me, what happened that day wasn’t just medical care; it was a miracle. We are so fortunate to have this incredible hospital in our community.”

Now, Donna is urging the community to support York Hospital’s Caring for All Fund to ensure the hospital’s team can continue providing life-saving care to those in need.

“None of us knows when the unthinkable will happen. But when it does, we want these amazing doctors, nurses, and caregivers ready to do what they do best: save lives,” she said.
